Save the Soul of Hyderabad: Revive the Historic YSR Archaeological Museum & Public Gardens

Public Gardens, also known as Bagh-e-Aam, stands as Hyderabad’s oldest and most cherished park, built in 1846 by the 7th Nizam. Nestled in the heart of the city at Nampally, this iconic green space is home to cultural treasures like the Telangana State Archaeology Museum, Jawahar Bal Bhavan, and the Legislative Assembly buildings. Despite its historical importance, the park and the adjoining YSR Archaeological Museum are now victims of neglect.

The YSR Museum, once a proud showcase of Hyderabad’s ancient legacy, is crumbling due to administrative apathy. Environment and social activist Mohammed Abid Ali has raised a clarion call to the Telangana and Central Governments, urging them to protect this cultural gem. The museum, with its Indo-Saracenic architecture and rare antiquities, needs urgent restoration. Centuries-old trees planted during the Nizam era are at risk, and the park’s once-vibrant charm is fading.

We appeal to Tourism Minister Shri Jupally Krishna Rao and MAUD Minister Shri Revanth Reddy Garu to prioritize the beautification and conservation of Public Gardens and the YSR Museum. Hyderabad must not lose this irreplaceable piece of history. Immediate action is the need of the hour.
