The actor stars in the Zee Theatre’s teleplay ‘Dhumrapaan’ which has now also been translated in Telugu
Actor and musician Taaruk Raina who has worked in OTT shows like ‘Mismatched,’ ‘The Broken News’ and ‘Jugaadistan,’ and played the titular role in the musical ‘Alladdin’ is always on the lookout for new creative challenges. Working in Zee Theatre’s teleplay ‘Dhumrapaan’ was an interesting experience for him and he shares, “The play portrays the dynamics of five people from different walks of life and how each of them faces a similar consequence, differently.”
The story unfolds in the smoking area of a corporate office where employees come together to air their grievances, discuss appraisals, politics and issues that cause them stress. Taaruk says the smoking zone is a kind of a metaphor and explains, “The smoking zone is generally a safe haven where corporate employees escape from reality temporarily. Some start smoking even though they don’t want to so that they can disconnect from corporate pressures of the rat race. “
He believes such teleplays are very relevant as they mirror the challenges of modern life. “It’s very important to tell such stories to make people fight for their dreams, beliefs, and their time. Life has a different plan for everyone and it doesn’t go easy on us, but knowing that there are other people who are going through the same thing makes one feel less alone. It might just induce some courage to stand up for one’s dreams and life,” he says.
Taaruk believes translating the teleplay in Telugu is a good idea and adds, “Hyderabad is the most tech-empowered cities in the country, and it is practically the backbone of the regional technological infrastructure. The people in big corporate offices are the exact audience this play will resonate with as they deal with immense pressure every single day.”
